How do we develop teams that thrive with passion and conviction?

Historically, to achieve team cohesiveness, we turn to team building events.

Traditional Team Building might work if you need members of the team to get along or to be able to work together and enjoy working together. But….

How effective are these events really?

Is there any elevation in team engagement?

Is there any tangible ROI that can be shown?

“‘m all for traditional team building at the end of a hard year. Getting people together to celebrate their successes and enjoy fun activities together before the holiday break. There is an obvious element of camaraderie,” says Trevor Van Schalkwyk, Director – Body Future Gym Groups. “But the bottom line is, traditional team building doesn’t work by itself for several reasons, one of which is that the activity normally has nothing to do with the team’s current job, particularly when I consider my sales and marketing team. The activity is more team fun than real team building.”

Start the year with a benchmark and be able to tangibly measure your team’s efficacy throughout the year.

Where you can Track, Evaluate, Amend and Monitor.

Now that’s TEAM Building!

A team’s performance calls for both individual and mutual accountability. Mutual accountability can lead to astonishing results. To achieve these benefits team members must do more than listen, respond constructively and provide support to one another.

The reality is that team members feel the most clarity about their individual objectives, and feel a strong sense of ownership for the work for which they are accountable. People love to get busy on tasks and responsibilities that have their names next to them – work they can do exceedingly well, producing results without collaborating. On top of that, they are being affirmed for those results by their bosses and the performance rating system.

Their failure to collaborate is, ironically, a function of their excelling at the jobs they are hired to do and of management reinforcing that excellence. Collaboration, on the other hand, is an idealized but vague goal with no concrete terms or rules. High performing teams get the best out of individual team members and improve overall team performance.
Poor team cohesion can cause unproductive conflict, demotivation, and prevent the team from achieving its goals.

So the questions we need to ask are:
Why is collaboration essential to achieving business results?
What work, which specific tasks, would require collaboration to deliver those results?

CorporateWise now has a tool, Team DyNAmics, where we can measure the input and strengths of each team member with regard to 16 elements and determine who is bringing what to the team.

It’s a measurable way to understand on a more ‘data-based’ level, where a team can improve and how they can collaborate effectively to achieve organisational goals. And, without giving to much away, there IS a fun aspect to this too, because, yes, there has to be fun in teambuilding.

Get more information about this innovative combination of data-based analysis and outdoor wisdom and start your teams off on a path to success in 2020!
