South Africa has one of the highest femicide rates in the world. This means that women in South Africa are being killed at a higher rate than women in other countries (on the basis that they are women and thus vulnerable to gender-based violence). Children are a vulnerable demographic as well.
With the tragic deaths of young women like Uyinene Mrewtyana, Jesse Hess and Meghan Cremer, among many others; South Africans have taken to the streets to march in solidarity with women and children against gender based violence.
