Baby Yoda’s universal appeal has taken the world by storm, but no toys for Christmas 2019

The Mandalorian is an American space Western web television series that premiered on Disney+ on 12 November 2019.

It is set after the fall of the Empire and before the emergence of the First Order, says Jon Favreau, creator, head writer, showrunner and executive producer of the series. It depicts a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic.

The existence of Baby Yoda kept under wraps

Fans weren’t the only ones surprised by the appearance of the cute little alien. Baby Yoda wasn’t showcased in the marketing or pre-launch merchandise for the new show as Favreau didn’t want to spoil his surprise appearance in the series.

Some manufacturers had only been told that the main character – the Mandalorian – played by Pedro Pascal, would care for a child at some point during the series.

Vanity Fair describes Baby Yoda’s fandom as obsessive, transcending age and experience. “There is seemingly unanimous adoration for this tiny alien creature. The puppet, the realness of it, is a triumph of design.”

No Baby Yoda toys for 2019 Festive Season

Now fans are clamouring for Baby Yoda toys and merchandise and there isn’t much available as Favreau wanted to avoid a deluge of consumer products, to prevent the existence of the Child leaking early.

Toymaker Hasbro confirmed to Vanity Fair that, “unfortunately, it would not have any Baby Yoda toys available until 2020, so it will not be in stores in time for the upcoming holidays”.
